When automobile manufacturers embark on crafting high-performance vehicles, they usually opt for models with two or more seats, envisioning the shared exhilaration of the ride. Yet, there are those who seek the uncompromised thrill of a solo adventure. This is where single-seaters like the Mono, designed by BAC, make their grand entrance.
According to Neil Briggs, co-founder of BAC and the head of product development, the Mono embodies the quintessential characteristics inherent to BAC’s DNA. These include high-performance, lightweight engineering, a dynamic chassis, optimized suspension, and a design that tugs at your heartstrings. In other words, it’s a road-legal racing beast.
The Mono resembles a Formula 1 car, featuring an open cockpit, a solitary seating arrangement, a featherlight construction, and a potent powerplant. Under its hood resides a 2.5-liter inline-four engine meticulously crafted by Mountune, delivering a robust 311 horsepower and 231 lb-ft of torque, all of which is efficiently managed by a six-speed racing-spec sequential gearbox.
In terms of acceleration, the Mono can reportedly sprint from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 2.7 seconds, an astounding feat attributed to its featherlight 1,257-pound weight.
BAC has gone to great lengths to optimize the weight distribution, with 41% at the front and 59% at the rear, to elevate its handling and responsiveness. The inclusion of “world-leading graphene-infused carbon panels” by BAC plays a pivotal role in the car’s remarkable weight reduction.
This single-seater sports an aggressive aero configuration that ensures steadfast stability during high-speed dashes. Its performance is akin to the track-oriented Mono R but boasts the coveted regulatory approval for road use.
Furthermore, the Mono is outfitted with five twin-spoked rims wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo R tires meticulously tailored for this exceptional machine. Production is already in progress, and eager customers can secure their preorders. While the price tag remains undisclosed, it is expected to be quite substantial.
