The Mipcom Cannes international TV conference opened with market director Lucy Smith paying respects to the “innocent victims in Israel and Gaza.” She spoke about the impact of the Israel-Hamas conflict on the market and industry, noting that only a few of the 70 Israeli industry executives registered for Mipcom were able to attend due to the devastation caused by Hamas’ attack on Oct. 7. Smith added that RX Global, the organizer of Mipcom and MipTV, is “supporting humanitarian relief across the region.” In light of recent events and France raising its security alert to the highest level, Smith emphasized that security is a top priority at the market, with increased checks and deployment of security agents.
